Formula used

V = π/4 × (OD² − B²) × t + π/4 × (Dhub² − B²) × h − n × π/4 × d² × t

All dimensions in millimetres; weight W = V × ρ × 10⁻⁹ with density ρ in kg/m³. Leave the hub fields at zero for a plate or blind-style flange without a hub.

This is a geometric approximation: raised faces, tapered hubs, chamfers and machining allowances mean the actual flange weight will differ slightly from the calculated figure.

Results are theoretical calculations based on the values you enter. Actual weights and quantities vary with manufacturing tolerances. Confirm requirements with our team before ordering.

About the Flange Weight Calculator

Flange weight drives packing, freight and scrap costs. This calculator treats the flange as a disc of given OD and thickness, removes the bore and the bolt holes, and adds an optional hub so you can approximate weld neck and slip-on flanges as well as blinds.

How to use it

  1. 01Enter the flange outside diameter and thickness.
  2. 02Enter the bore — leave it at zero for a blind flange.
  3. 03Add bolt hole count and diameter so their material is deducted.
  4. 04Add hub diameter and height if the flange is hubbed, then read the estimated weight.

Common questions

How accurate is a calculated flange weight?
It is an approximation. Raised faces, hub tapers and machining allowances mean the real weight can differ by several percent from the simplified geometry.
Which density should I choose?
7850 kg/m³ for carbon and alloy steel flanges; 8000 kg/m³ for 304, 304L, 316 and 316L stainless.

This calculator is free to use and built for Indian metric practice — weights in kilograms and kg per metre, dimensions in millimetres. Omegha Steel supplies pipes, fittings, flanges and fasteners from Kolkata to projects across India; send us the sizes you have calculated and we will quote on them.
