Formula used

T = K × F × d

F is the target bolt load in newtons, d the nominal bolt diameter in metres and K the nut factor, which depends on thread condition and lubrication.

The nut factor is empirical and varies widely with lubrication, thread condition and surface finish, so the result is an estimate. Always follow the torque values, tightening pattern and passes specified by the flange, gasket or bolting standard used on your project.

Results are theoretical calculations based on the values you enter. Actual weights and quantities vary with manufacturing tolerances. Confirm requirements with our team before ordering.

About the Flange Bolt Torque Calculator

The short-form torque equation T = K × D × F links tightening torque to the clamp load you actually want in the bolt. Enter bolt diameter, target load or stress and a nut factor for your lubrication condition to get torque in N·m and lb·ft.

How to use it

  1. 01Enter the nominal bolt diameter.
  2. 02Enter the target bolt load in kN, or a target stress and stress area.
  3. 03Set the K-factor for the condition — typically around 0.20 dry, 0.15 lubricated.
  4. 04Read the required torque and apply it in a crosswise tightening pattern.

Common questions

What is the K-factor in bolt torque?
The nut factor, an empirical value covering thread and nut-face friction. Roughly 0.20 for plain dry steel and 0.13–0.16 when lubricated with an anti-seize.
Is this a substitute for a torque table?
No. For pressure-retaining joints follow the gasket manufacturer's or project's torque table and procedure; this tool is for estimating and cross-checking.

This calculator is free to use and built for Indian metric practice — weights in kilograms and kg per metre, dimensions in millimetres. Omegha Steel supplies pipes, fittings, flanges and fasteners from Kolkata to projects across India; send us the sizes you have calculated and we will quote on them.
