Formula used

chord = BCD × sin(180° / n)  |  x = R × sin θ, y = R × cos θ

BCD is the bolt circle diameter, n the number of holes, R = BCD / 2 and θ the angle of each hole measured clockwise from the 12 o'clock position.

Hole coordinates from the flange centre (X right, Y up), in millimetres:

About the Flange Bolt Circle Calculator

When you are marking out a flange, a blank or a cover plate, you need the chord distance between adjacent holes and the coordinates of each hole from the centre. Enter the bolt circle diameter (PCD) and the number of holes and this tool prints the full layout table.

How to use it

  1. 01Enter the bolt circle diameter, also called PCD.
  2. 02Enter the number of bolt holes.
  3. 03Read the angle between holes, chord distance and arc length.
  4. 04Use the X/Y coordinate table to mark each hole from the flange centre.

Common questions

How do you find the distance between bolt holes?
Chord = PCD × sin(180° ÷ number of holes). For an 8-hole flange on a 200 mm PCD that is 200 × sin(22.5°) ≈ 76.5 mm.
What is PCD on a flange?
Pitch circle diameter — the diameter of the imaginary circle passing through the centre of every bolt hole.
